Dayside at Anime NYC 2021

2020 was a long year of Covid mandates and restrictions. Most conventions held their event online, which was a bit of a setback compared to the previous years. But this year, Anime NYC is back with an in-person event! With very careful rules and regulations to avoid the spread of Covid of course! This time around, con goers will need to be vaccinated and are required to wear a mask throughout the convention floor. It’s just a little something to have the event happen and have everyone safe at the same time.

The Dayside Team had Press Passes to check out the convention and see the festivities. We wanted to know the differences during pre-pandemic, and use Kevin’s camera, the super awesome Sony A7S3, to document how masks are being used by cosplayers. So far from what we’ve seen, it’s been pretty much the same aside from everyone wearing masks.

Here some shots that Kevin took of the awesome cosplayers implementing their masks with their costumes:

We specially liked the Gundam cosplay. It was very clever!

As I play with photography myself, I used my iPhone 12 Pro to battle out Kevin’s skills to prove that you don’t need any fancy camera to take good pictures. Here are some pictures I took:

Who do you think won the photography battle?

Anime NYC felt like the previous conventions, except we can’t help the feeling that it was a tad more crowded. I guess everyone wanted to take part of this con since last year was just online. Regardless, we were happy to see it flourish. The show floor is the same with the various company booths and vendors, and they had plenty of panels to attend. There were other great activities like the cosplay showcase, movie screening, photo ops and celebrity guests.

One of our favorite panel that we attended were the RDCWorld where they talked about their upcoming projects with HBO Max as well as previews of their upcoming videos, like Hood Avatar and Anime House.

Another panel that we needed to attend was the Crunchyroll panel where they talked about some upcoming anime series that will be shown through their services in the upcoming months. I can’t wait for Spy x Family!

It looks like everything is going back to normal and it makes us happy knowing this.
